Harlen Community
High School, Iowa, saw a young John out for wrestling four years, qualifying
for State his junior year and taking 3rd his senior year. Coming to Dana
College to play football, he began to put down roots in Nebraska. Taking
the coaching job at Wayne, he has been there since, except for a one year
“tour” in Red Oak, Iowa. His duel record stands at 71-32-
1 while taking 23 tournament titles. He has had 19 state placers which
includes 3 state champs and a ranking in the Top Ten 3 times. His Wayne
teams were 8th in ‘89, 2nd in ‘91, and 8th in ‘99. Add
to this the honor of having coached two All Americans and you can see
John is headed for more accolades before he looks at retirement. He has
been the Youth Wrestling coach for 14 years and served two terms on the
NSWCA Board. He was assistant coach for the NSWCA All Star Classic in
‘91 and head coach in ‘92. His biggest thrill comes in coaching
his son to a State Champ title in ‘99 and as a team, in being State
Runner-up in ‘91. John is introduced by his friend and assistant
coach, Aaron Schuett. Home | Board of Directors | Hall of Fame | All-Star Classic Copyright
