Keven began is indoctrination into wrestling in the Schuyler Kid Program while in grade school under the tutelage of Hall of Famer Roger Barry. After several ups and downs and many consultations on Coach Barry’s lap Keven entered high school in 1970 and qualified in the 98 lb class his freshman year weighing only 82 lbs. Gathering steam, but not weight, he compiled an 18-12-0 record, was 2nd in conference, 3rd in districts and second in the national’s his sophomre year and qualified for state weighing 89 lbs. Moving to Kearney in 1972 he was second in the Big 10, a District Champ and claimed the gold at state under Coach Tom McCann. His junior record was 27-4. His senior year was a near repeat of his junior season with the exception that he was unscored upon in the state meet as he repeated his gold medal performance of the previous year. Anderson earned berths on two cultural exchange teams while in high school, Romania and South America in 1972 and 1973. Keven competed for
two years for Kearney State College under Hall of Famer Jack Ramey where
he ran his record to 35-8 with a Nebraska College Conference Title, two
NAIA District 11 championships and All-American status with a sixth place
