Wrestling just isn”t one of those sports that you can step out on
the gym floor, run back and forth and win! It takes hard work, tenacity,
and time. Marc Bauer is an outstanding example. A great career in high
school led to an even better college experience. Wrestling for Kearney
High, he set 13 records and qualified for state all 4 yrs. He finished
3rd his junior year and second his senior year. In the finals that year
he went into overtime with his opponent and when the match ended it was
awarded to his opponent on 7th criteria (stalling warning) He concluded
his high school career with a record of 107-32, including 67 pins. Tenacity:
Marc went on to wrestle in the NSWCA Kansas- Nebraska Dual and was on
the Maine Exchange Team. Entering college at the University of Nebraska
in Omaha he continued to grow . He became a 3x NCAA Division II All American
as well as a 3x member of the Academic All American Team. In addition
he was a 2x North Central Conference Champ and finished in the all time
top 5 for the UNO Wins List. He was a member of the Division II National
Championship Team and selected Nebraska High School Graduate Outstanding
College Wrestler by “Headlock”. Time: Marc is currently teaching
in Kearney where he is head coach at Kearney Horizon Middle School and
assistant at UNK. Counting as his biggest thrill in this great sport was
winning the Division II Nationals with his team and winning his last match
in college. Marc is introduced by his high school coach, Tom McCann (Hall
’94).
