This youthful competitor has notched 25 years of wrestling competition. His experience has been through Boy’s Club, high school, college, and international wrestling teams. Roye began is prep career at Omaha Tech in 1970 but it wasn’t until his sophomore year at 98 pounds with the Metro and North High Invite crowns under his belt that he began his ride to the top. His junior year he was district, Metro, North High, state and National Junior Olympic Champ at 119. This double-leg expert moved up to 138 his senior year and still on a roll picked up this third Metro and North High Invite crowns, his second district title and a runner-up at state to compile a 105-4 prep record. Deciding to spread
his talent around, Roye headed for Arizona Sate in 1974 where he was a
three time NCAA All-American with a 90-14 record. Hired as head coach
at Palomar College in San Marcos, Ca., Roye considers the California State
Championship by 1/4 of a point as a definite high in his first year as
head man. He was a member of the U.S. Olympic team in 1984 and was chosen
California Community College Coach of the Year in 1988. A remarkable record
for someone who never plans to grow old, Roy is deeply involved with “his
kids”, over 85 young men from 4-14 years old that, he coaches and
travels with to meets in a six state area. Home | Board of Directors | Hall of Fame | All-Star Classic Copyright
